What to Do Immediately After Water Damage in Your Home

Water damage moves fast. The first 24-48 hours are critical. Here’s exactly what to do.

Turn off the water source. If the damage is from a burst pipe or appliance, shut off the main water valve immediately.

Turn off electricity in affected areas. Water and electricity are a dangerous combination. Don’t enter a flooded room if outlets or wiring may be wet.

Document everything. Take photos and video of all damage before cleaning anything up. You’ll need this for your insurance claim.

Call your insurance company. Report the damage right away and ask about coverage for emergency repairs and restoration.

Call Larry’s Royal Flush (we are also a licensed contractor). Water damage spreads into walls floors, and ceilings fast. We will make an assessment immediately.

At Larry’s Royal Flush and Royal Quality Builders, we handle water damage from pipe to finish — plumbing repairs, water extraction, and full restoration. We also work directly with insurance companies to help manage your claim.
